Dear Educator,

The Westchester Cat Show would like to invite your students to participate in a writing contest to tell us why their cat, or a cat they know, is unique or special enough to be considered a candidate for our Cat of the Year award. The Cat of the Year award was instituted by the Westchester Cat Show as an honor to be bestowed upon a cat not necessarily competing at the show, but one who possesses some unique characteristic or has performed some extraordinary act of heroism or self-preservation. Past winners of this prestigious award have included a cat who saved her five kittens from a burning building, a cat who survived on a roof top at ground zero for 14 days by drinking contaminated water, and a DOG named Ginny who saved over 600 cats in her lifetime. There will be a total of six prizes awarded. A first, second and third place for entries in the K through 2nd group, and a first, second and third place for entries in the grades 3 through 5 group.

Stories can be mailed, e-mailed or faxed to the following address and must be received by October 31, 2008:
1638 Hyatt Avenue · Peekskill, NY 10566
914-739-5408 / Fax: 914-739-0526
L.masson @ verizon.net

Stories must be 500 words or less. Participants in grades K through 2, who may not have achieved writing skills yet, may relate their story to us with the help of a teacher who can co-author their submission. All stories must be submitted on official entry forms, with all the author and school information completed. The Westchester Feline Club is pleased to have the help and support of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, who will be providing prizing for this project and look forward to reading all the wonderful stories as only children can tell them. Links to information about the contest and winning entries will be posted at SimonSaysKids.com and SimonSaysTEACH.com.

If you have any questions, please call Leslie Masson at 914-739-5408 or e-mail her at L.masson @ verizon.net.

Sincerely,
Sandra Adler
Vice President
Westchester Feline Club
